What: Kumaravel Chettinad Meals
Where: Eldams Road, Teynampet, Chennai
Cuisine: Chettinad
After bookmarking and uncountable number of plan failures I finally visited this place for a Sunday lunch. Between the narrow streets of Teynampet, I would have had hard time to spot them, if not for a known person who was driving me there. Ideally, not a place I would pick for family lunch considering the locality with wine-shop adding glamour. But that wouldn't even fall into a criteria once the taste scores enough.
For a Sunday noon, the place was pretty empty but the crowd gradually kept pouring in. Knowing the kind of food they serve with just two tummies onboard, I went with the order immediately. As the food started making its way, I couldn't have been happier.
Limited Non-veg Meals, the portion felt humongous for me. That would save any hungry tummy. With Chicken Curry, Mutton Curry, Fish Curry, Sambar, Rasam, Buttermilk, Poriyal and Koottu; what more could you ask for? Fish curry was my favorite nevertheless were the others. With some side dish this meals would be perfect filler for Rs.80 INR.
Scoring so well with their meals, they neither did disappoint with the Egg Biriyani. Reflecting a homemade feel made it more enjoyable to taste; loved everything about that biriyani. The accompanying Kurma was delicious.
Vanjaram (Seer) Fish Fry was a perfecto; crispy not oily and the marination used on the fish was flavourful. Love, love and loved it. The tender and juicy chunks of mutton cooked to perfection in that pepper masala gravy is a bliss to eat, if you visit this place then Mutton Chukka is a must order.
A bill of Rs. 510 INR for the above said item is really reasonable. Guess they had some problem with their billing machine so it was an hand-written bill. Hope they fix that issue as that doesn't give away a good look; and it's a proper hotel setup.
Breaking Down Points
Location & Parking: Ok. Worth travelling from any distance; four-wheeler even don't imagine about parking.
Ambience: Good. Managed to maintain the place neat. No fancy elements.
Food Variety: Positive. Vegetarians stay-away. A hunt for carnivores souls.
Taste: Positive. I loved what I ate.
Quality & Quantity: Positive. Bringing the essence of home cooking wins for me. Simple and beautiful presentation. Quantity is perfect for a person.
Service: Good. No complaints.
Price: Positive. Reasonable and that would be a total value for money. Cost for two would be Rs.500-600 INR.
So my Verdict!
Kumaravel Chettinad Meals! That is some delicious home-food. There is lot's to try, infact the whole menu would tempt us but one-day wouldn't fit everything. I wouldn't stop dining here for sure especially during the home-food craving.
P.S. This write-up is based on my food palate & dining experience during my restaurant visit. Remember, no two person's food palate can be same.
