What: Doner Kebab Bistro
Where: Anderson Road, Cochin House, Nungambakkam, Chennai
Cuisine: Continental
The bistro's name did create the curiosity to check the place. Not familiar with 'Doner Kebab' but I did some research but not getting into details as my dear Google would help you find answers. With Nungambakkam being the destination, I was able to find the bistro without any hustle.
On the calm lanes of Anderson Road, the colourful and vibrant glass house decor invited me into a small yet cozy dining space. Spend times together and you shall not be bored as the place fills you with warmth and the food portions are huge (really huge) that seems like a never-ending journey.
With no further delay I went ahead with the order. Indeed one of the shortest menu. And the cold Chocolate Peanut Butter Milk Shake arrived with bits of Groundnut Praline and Brownie stuck to the jar. A combination that can't go wrong and after a few sips I felt the overdose of sugar but the praline's crunchiness balances that out.
Chicken Fajita Samosa, as crispy as the name sounded the taste was crispier. The shredded chicken stuffed inside the flaky outer layer of samosa spreads happiness along with the tangy salsa.
'Never underestimate the size of the Kebab', and the Beef Doner is a giant. The combination of spicy mayonnaise, sriracha and garlic yogurt sauce is the secret taste enhancer. The beef pieces were juicy and one perfect fit inside the giant bread. And that huge, tasty and crispy patty is the reason for a tasty Vegetarian Burger; it missed the lavish or even spread of the pesto aioli. The doner and burger comes with huge portion of fries.
It's a risk I opt for when I order Aromatic Rice, I can't be completely sure if they will meet my taste buds. The bed of aromatic rice, chicken, mayonnaise and sauces blended together perfectly. I loved the Chicken Kebab Box with Aromatic Rice.
That was one tough meal to complete in terms of portion; huge quantity. But there is always space for some dessert and their arrived the Churros with milk chocolate and dulce de leche dips. The dips were yum though churros were soft it missed the crispy outer layer.
A bill of Rs. 1384 INR (including taxes) seemed alright considering the portion and quality of the food.
Breaking Down Points
Location & Parking: Positive. Maps will guide you accurately and parking is outside the bistro.
Ambience: Good. Cosy and serene
Food Variety: Good. Less and simple with some exciting non-vegetarian dishes.
Quality & Quantity: Good. I liked the presentation and choice of sauces. The quantity is huge.
Service: Good. Smiled through their way and prompt.
Price: Good. Cost for two Rs. 1000 INR approximately. A complete and value for money meal.
So my Verdict!
Doner Kebab Bistro! At the right locality with vibrant ambience that's perfect for extended conversations and to fill your tummies with food. Another nice addition to the Chennai's bistro collection.
P.S. This write-up is based on my food palate & dining experience during my restaurant visit. Remember, no two person's food palate can be same.

DeleteOn our visit to this place, we mostly stayed downstairs, where the beer and liquor selection was quite admirable. The staff at Chicago venues really pride themselves on the beers and food they have.
