What's so special with Kakka Muttai?

It was this trailer, which brought wrinkles across my face while watching the much-famed yet displeasing movie Massu last week. I grabbed the ticket as soon as they opened it and landed on my seat at my ever favourite Satyam Cinemas (as usual!). Of course, my anticipation for this movie is way too much after browsing through its critical comments. Not to forget, this movie has won two awards at 62nd National Film Awards as well (Best Children’s Movie and Best Child Artist).

I have seen quite a few children’s movies in Tamil and have noted one thing in common; the genre, i.e. comedy social drama. And some movies end with a tragic incident in which either the prime character dies or some other important character dies. It could fetch the director some awards, but viewership? This movie would rather make you smile not just at the beginning or end, but throughout.

Kakka Muttai - Crow's Egg
Kakka Muttai (Crow’s Egg) is a light hearted, enjoyable experience, one should never miss. It is one such movie that will make you feel and experience the beauty of the slum with utmost passion.

Slum is very common in India, especially in the metro cities. Slum is just a heavily populated area found across the urban environment with informal settlements. Due to the hefty population, the dwellings will be small, not properly arranged leaving little space for haulage. People here, reside across a filthy atmosphere like sewage, drainage, etc., where government do not interfere. Just because they are grown up here in such an environment, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have dreams.

Everyone in this world have dreams. If a rich dream for a plane, middle-class dream for a plane toy and a poor dream for the left-over of the plane toy used by middle-class. Whatever the dream may, it should be respected. If not, there arises a problem.

This movie is all about the slum, their happiness, problems, and most importantly their DREAMS. Manikandan who not only have written the script but also created wonders with his camera. Watching slum through his lens is a visual retreat. Kids were just unbelievably brilliant throughout this movie.

At last there is a movie with no tasmac scenes, double-meaning annoying lines, unnecessary song and fight sequences, unnatural make-ups and all other commercial elements. Kudos to dhanush and vetrimaaran for their commendable effort in pioneering and producing such a natural yet meaningful movie.

Watch Katta Muttai and experience the world of slum and its people. There are some awe-inspiring performances that would fascinate you on the due course of the movie. I highly recommend you to watch this movie, but in its original form (may be with subtitle). Nothing is as brilliant as the originals right.

p.s. I didn’t come up with my regular review for this movie because it is not just a movie, it is an EXPERIENCE.
