‘Into the Wild’ and Emile
Hirsch nerve-breaking
performance came to my mind, soon after watching the trailer of ‘Wild.’ It was one heck of a ride, with
intense characterization and performance.
Experiencing the
wilderness (ALONE) is a longstanding wish on my bucket list, I don’t know when,
how and where it is going to happen. But the least I can do now is to experience
it by watching movies, which is made with the same theme.
Alright, let’s get
started. Story, Screenplay, Music and Performance on the cards, as you know.
Here we go then!
What makes you stay seated?
You might find the
screenplay not-so-interesting, you might find the music not-so cosy, and we all
know it is a slow moving movie. Despite all these, there is one thing that will
make you stay seated for all 115 minutes, which is Reese Witherspoon (Cheryl).
She justified her role with a clear-cut PERFORMANCE.
She hasn't just performed, but rather lived and experienced the wild as a whole.
Laura Derm, known for her performance in the Jurassic Park, has come up with a
smiling-yet-remarkable performance as Bobbi, Cheryl’s mother. There were some other
characters in the movie, which I don’t remember as of now, but I would say that
everyone did their part neatly.
The
STORY is another positive with the script, which by
itself is very powerful and deep. A young woman, after losing her charming-yet-lovable
mother and abandoned marriage, took a rash decision to go for a 1000 miles of
hiking, all alone. This way she tries to
get rid of her destructive behaviour and recklessness and also recover from the
pain she had in the past. Bold story of a woman, who proceeds against all odds
on her journey that enrages, toughen and eventually heals her.
What would have been better?
I don’t deny the fact
that this is a typical drama with its own love and emotions. But I guess it
would have been made even more interesting including some other characters in
the plot. Into the Wild is a similar movie with more or less similar storyline,
but the plot has been dealt well making the movie even more appealing. SCREENPLAY matters the most when it
comes to the family drama. It should be tweaked with some interesting elements,
dialogues, visuals, and so on. And most important of all is the unpredictability
of the scenes, which is missing entirely in this movie. I would rather say a wonderful
plot and awe-inspiring cinematography has been lost in the not-so-interesting
and a predictable screenplay.
Since it is a biographical
family drama, MUSIC comes last in
the list, followed by story, screenplay and performances. Background score would
have been better as a good soothing music adds value to the entire script,
which is about experiencing the wild.
Bottomline
Watch this movie for the awesome cinematography and some inspiring performances
