What: Pan-Asian
Buffet at China Town
Where: 3rd Floor,
Cathedral Road, Gopalapuram, Chennai
When: 1st
June - 19th June, 2016
At a prominent location of the city, China Town continues to serve delicious
food from Chinese cuisine. And this time they have brought down the best
delicacies from various Pan-Asian cuisines. The buffet offers a wide spread
starting from soups, salads, starters, mains and desserts with ample varieties for
vegetarians and non-vegetarians. It is priced at Rs. 645 INR (tax inclusive).
As I walked across the buffet spread, it
is a well-planned collection of dishes and taste-wise the food won the show. It
is a rotational menu so you might not find the same dish I ate but the
varieties look luscious. The soups and starters are served on your table; the Spicy Lemon
Grass Soup wasn't a favourite and the hit of spice was overboard
for me. Both the live-grilled hot Tofu Satay and Chicken Sausage Satay
with peanut dip were yum.
The dim sums with the chilli and mustard
sauce were delicious, both the Chicken and Veg Dim Sum made me
salivate and crave for more. Crispy cauliflowers tossed in the sweet and hot
sauce, the Cauliflower
with Cashew Nuts is the best pick of the day and a similar
counterpart "Fish
in Chilly Basil Sauce" was equally tasty with soft and
juicy fish chunks in the hot-sweet basil sauce.
The Veg Fried Wontons, crispy with the
right amount of filling is another hit. I didn't taste the Chicken Lolly Pop as
the overpowering sweetness from the sauce is something I wouldn't enjoy.
And then there was the buffet, I happily
skipped the salads (there were three varieties) and went on to the mains. A tad
less on salt otherwise the Veg Jungle Fried Rice is the best on
the buffet. Except Egg
Plant Pepper Salt in veg and Sweet and Sour Prawn in
non-veg, which aren't my personal favourite, the rest of the meal was spot-on.
Creamy and rich Vietnamese Veg Curry
paired so well with the steamed rice.
And the Exotic
Vegetables in Black Bean Sauce was perfect for the Veg Hakka
Noodles.
For the carnivores, there was Jungle Fried
Rice with Chicken, Vietnamese Chicken Curry and Lamb in Chilly
Oyster Sauce. They all tasted great and that was an almost
flawless main course.
The dessert varieties were bang-on, the Coconut Dim Sum,
White Chocolate
Delight and Jam Tart were perfecto in terms of sweet
and flavour balance. Velvety, wobbly and tasty was the Caramel Custard. The Butterscotch
Pastry, Bread Pudding and Honey Crispy
Noodles with Ice-Cream were good in taste. Whereas the Panna Cotta
and Strawberry Mousse
weren't a personal favourite, especially I would have preferred a smoother
version of Panna Cotta.
And the unlimited deal with a
extravagant culinary spread of mouth-watering Asian dishes at Rs. 645 INR (tax
inclusive) is a jackpot for Asian food lovers.
Breaking Down Points
Location &
Parking:
Positive. A well-chosen location with
valet parking.
Ambience: Good. A good place but they can
definitely maintain it better.
Food Variety: Positive. The Pan-Asian buffet is vast
and sumptuous.
Taste: Positive. Bang-on, almost flawless.
Quality &
Quantity:
Good. It's unlimited and presented
well. They can think about not having the spread right at the entrance.
Service: Good. No complaints.
Price: NA. Cost for two is Rs. 1290 INR approx. A totally value for money meal and the buffet
is priced reasonably.
So my Verdict!
China Town! Spreading their wings across
Asian cuisine with the exotic Pan-Asian culinary spread. The food and taste
talks enough and a major reason to check out this place. The special Pan-Asian
buffet is till 19 June 2016.
