Wish the Legends Survive the Competition - Samco - Restaurant Review

Outlet: Alwarpet (Other Outlet at Teynampet)
Address: 174, Eldams Road, Alwarpet, Chennai.
Cuisine: North Indian, Chinese, Mughlai

One among the legendary eateries that has managed to sustain in the business till date, this definitely calls for an applause. Located at the Eldams Road corner that connects with TTK road and just opposite CP Ramaswami Foundation. They would accommodate a few vehicles in their parking arena outside the hotel. When it comes to ambience there is nothing much to rave or notice except that they have pulled off a neat and decent dining setup.

As we settled here for lunch and my partner got to rush to his office, we didn't delay much with our order. A small portion of food to satisfy our hunger and the food arrived pretty fast. And the starter 'Fish Tikka' was the best choice, succulent and flavourful cubes of boneless fish with the mint chutney was perfecto. Before we could finish off the fish, the hot Egg Biriyani, Roti and Murgh Patiyala made its way to the table.

Fish Tikka
Egg Biriyani
Though I love fried onions I feel they are a spoiler on a biriyani. That two eggs filled a huge portion of the bowl but the biriyani was neither a hit nor a failure. If you wish for mild flavours in your biriyani then here goes your perfect find but I wasn't a big fan (and you shall definitely find better biriyani). Then there was Murgh Patiyala, not sure about the authenticity and neither have tried them before. It was a kheema-style chicken gravy stuffed inside a fluffy egg omelette; taste was good but the gravy was better with biriyani than Roti.

Murgh Patiyala
That four dishes filled us up and a bill of Rs. 855 including tax isn't cheap by any means.

Breaking Down Points
Location & Parking: Positive. Locating and parking is a boon.
Ambience: Ok. Neat and decent.
Food Variety: Good. The non-vegetarians will not be disappointed with the variety.
Taste: Ok. Confusion, confusion; but taste wasn't brilliant considering there yesteryear fame so there is scope to make the food taste 'wow'.
Quality: Good. A decent presentation and good ingredients choice makes the dish taste well.
Quantity: Good. The portion size of each dish is perfect for one person.
Service: Good. They are prompt and good.
Price: For that portion size it's on heavier side so 'Costly' is what I felt.

So my Verdict!
Samco! For the love of legendary food joints at Chennai you shall try them once. And it's better the vegetarians stay away. Pricey considering the quantity and a mediocre taste. For the residents who live around the locality give it a try, wouldn't be a disappointment after all.

P.S. This write-up is based on my food palate & dining experience during my restaurant visit. Remember, no two person's palate can be same.
