Panthera Tigris - The Umbrella species of the Bio-diversity

Do you know which state stands top with tiger population? Cool it’s our own Tamil Nadu itself, says an eminent scientist Dr. Rajah Jayapaul from Wildlife Conservation society (WCS). He said this in a three day workshop held in Anamalai Tiger Reserve about "Sensitizing the media on conserving the Tigers and its habitats in Tamil Nadu" sponsored by WCS.

India has the total tiger estimation of about 1500 in that Tamil Nadu shares the largest part which clearly states sparkling forest management from our forest officials. Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, National Park are the three remarkable areas in TN covering almost 1600 Sq. km with flourishing bio-diversity. These sanctuaries not only provides habitat to tiger but also to numerous other attractive species like Great Indian Hornbill, Lion tailed macaque, Malabar giant squirrel, racket-tailed drongo, etc wherein few are endemic species as well.

Field director along with the wildlife warden put forth a modus operandi in order to preserve the environment like involving Anti-poaching watchers, providing own vehicle for tourist curbing the incoming private vehicles and banning plastics, etc. It’s their fortune to decide on the fate and now everything is going fine as Tamil Nadu stands superior holding more number of Tigers.

Official’s action will be for holy cause but handling things will be in diplomatic manner so now the total responsibility comes on to us, the active netizens, to work towards the conservation of our wildlife giving more importance to our National animal, Tiger as it is called as Umbrella Species of our Bio-diversity.
