Love you Zindagi

Dear Zindagi,

You really are an intriguing and adventurous buddy to hang out with. I admire your ability of converting any moments upside down. And yes, you have the midas touch.

I still remember the moment that brought us together. I hardly noticed you until then. It was during my college days, B.Sc. to be specific. You offered me two convoluted paths. One – the most taken (job) and other – most ignored (higher studies). Guess what? I went ahead with the most taken path as the other was bit scary. Anyway it was my choice to decide right!

The path I have chosen greeted me with a gentle kiss and also embraced me with ever-charming love (induction and training programmes at five star hotels). I would say it was elite and I was at the top of the world with my decision. But I never really understood the intensity of that kiss. You even warned me many a times (M.Sc. offers) to reconsider my decision but I was busy fantasising with many things. I was taken aback by the kingly treatment and the extravagant offerings. It didn't allow me to think of anything else but experience it with joy. But it was your friend time, who made me realise that my decision was wrong. By then I have completely lost what I have learnt in B.Sc. The subject I learnt with passion was not travelling with me any more. I lost it completely. The very thought of it scared the shit out of me, I must admit. It was disheartening.

I reached the state of solitary confinement. And then you introduced me to your buddies – loneliness and silence. They comforted me like never before. The amount of love they showered upon me was something I never received or experienced till then. The relishing time with them helped me retrieve and access my lost self. Time helped me harness my abilities. He is not just an amazing healer but a wonderful teacher as well, for his ability to make me recognise my strengths. Your buddies were remarkable.

As promised to time, I went along with my strengths and pursued M.Sc. And then I understood how interesting and satisfactory it is to proceed with our heart. It was fun, practical and also praiseworthy.

My touch with loneliness and silence never returned as I got a real-time buddy to hang out with, courtesy you again. She helped me unify my strengths and laid a foundation (my blog was born) for expressing it. I thought it was a new beginning as my thoughts were well received. But it was you and time who really patted my back when needed.

You taught me how to embrace sufferings and failures. You also made me realise that accepting them with humbleness will help in proceeding further. And it’s relaxing as well.

Acceptance is the most important learning from you. It’s something that make our life blissful and to be relished upon with pride.

I will never question you again for your intriguing self. I will accept and cherish it instead.

With these beautiful verses from Javed Akhtar, I bid adieu for now.

Har ghadi badal rahi hai roop zindagi
Chaanv hai kabhi, kabhi hai dhoop zindagi
Har pal yahan
Jee bhar jiyo jo hai samaa
Kal ho naa ho

Love you Zindagi,
Gowthama

  1. Life and the choices are a tricky situation. One should not repent on the choices made. Hence, when a choice is being made one should understand the pros and cons including its future impact. But then again, life is always not this perfect situation...one has to go through so many situations..

    1. Rightly said Ajai. Whatever done in life is done and it cannot be changed. Just accept and let go.

  2. Apropos your interest in writing, please do not count every hour of a day but make the hour in the day count. Every morning a new life is dawn with cheesy challenges to face, for you to race and rise ahead. Leap out to reach new heights and take them as a lesson. Reminds me of an old Kishore Kumarji song (Movie: Mukkaddar Ka Sikandar-1978) “Zindagi toh bewafaa hai Ek din thukrayegi.” If you could permit me, I would also like to make an unusual comment that your new essay on the proverb “A Stitch in Time Saves Nine” is superb.

    1. The words from mukkaddar ka sikandar is lovely and connecting to our everyday situation. Also it matches up with your words about life as well. Every word counts. Thanks for spending time and sharing your thoughts. It is highly valuable for me.

    1. Yeah if we accept and embrace changes in life, we can kick out these fellows from intruding into our privacy - hurt, dissent and disapproval.

  6. Life always gives us choices. It is the only thing consistent about it. Otherwise, it's a puzzle, a delightful puzzle for me, which I try solving each day... :-)

Wonderfully wriiten...loved the mention of the KHNH song at the end...

    1. Rightly said Maniparna. Life is a puzzle; interesting or irritating depends on the way we see it. Btw, I love that song.
